Laura Cook uses her camera as her tool to "paint" the detail she sees in the world. She talks passionately about seeing the beauty in what we often overlook as we rush by the landscapes that surround us. Her subject matter varies from the natural to the manmade. What we all see (or dismiss) draws her in but it is the details that captivate her. She uses her camera to capture what she sees and employs only minimal post-production editing to her work before printing.
Laura's art is featured in the window gallery at 44 Gaukel St, Kitchener for the month of January 2023. Laura's statement about this series: "I created the full series out of an outpouring of awe and wonder of the beauty before me in hopes that this would cause others to become more curious to look closer at the natural world and be awed by creation. The series consists of 27 images and contains photos of hibiscus, iris, begonia, lily, gladiola, trillium, cyclamen, bougainvillea, peace lily and succulents. Each subject was explored closely using selective focus techniques to emphasize line, texture and colour."
