Bonds & Sutures calls forward the idea of connective tissues within a body; our own, each other’s, and that of the Earth’s, as both physical and metaphorical forces that bond as a point of departure. The works in this exhibition reflect on the vulnerable, resilient bodies of people, ecologies and their subsequent structures as they live, breathe and move through the world.
The ten artists in this exhibition explore various themes which reference our material and ideological pasts and presents, reimagining and intercepting visions for the future by employing various methods of artistic creation with conceptual frameworks; stitching, carving, laser-etching, threading, printing, drawing, painting and film photography. From the ecology of our natural world, the architectures which define our interior and transitory spaces, to the structures of our languages, mythologies and sociologies, each of the works in this exhibition exemplify living practices that observe, listen and respond to nuanced narratives of our evanescent time on Earth and a deep longing for a shared, sustainable world beyond.
