A caesura (pronounced say-sura) denotes a brief and silent pause within a metrical foot of a poem, song, and other forms of art. Alternatively, it references a break of an era; where one ends, and another begins. The 45th Annual Senior Undergraduate Exhibition presents the work of thirty-four artists, on the verge of completing their final year as Fine Arts students at the University of Waterloo. The exhibition captures a caesura of sorts: in the moment where a group of artists come together to take a breath, in celebration of their achievements and the possibilities that their futures hold. The diverse collection of artworks on display speaks to the distinct paths that the artists have pursued, on a shared four-year endeavour towards an undergraduate degree. While marking the end of one era, Caesura previews new chapters to come, for this soon to be graduating class.
